Unnecessary thread movement 6358

I'd like to make a small request. This mostly pertains to /oat/ but I figure should probably apply to any board with an established community.

Basically, if a thread is made on a board about the board itself or it's individual posters, it seems odd to me to move it to another board that has nothing to do with the topic.

On /oat/ for example… if someone makes a thread about a particular /oat/ poster or addresses /oat/ as a community, it seems unnecessary and pointless to move it to /chat/, even if it technically isn't about a pony related topic. I just don't see the logic in these types of thread movements, since all it really does is kill the thread.

So can this please stop?

Yeah a lot of oat threads are dead on arrival in chat.

I can't imagine /chat/ is too happy about it either.
Maybe it's time for a /oat/ after dark?

I can see how they wouldn't want too many non-pony threads cluttering /oat/, but instead of moving them, I think it would be better to autosage them while leaving them on /oat/.

You could always

a) do what everyone has historically done and get out all your interpersonal stuff in the op before making the thread about ponies

b) keep it in one thread. The Donut Bar was fine for that, and last night I saw an /oat/ after dark, which is perfectly fine.

So basically "Shit is still getting moved, Deal with it." Alright then.

Pretty much. /oat/ has an enormous amount of leniency already applied to it, and i personally can't really envision it with any more without it becoming basically /chat/ 2.

Problem solved

Fair enough I suppose

People evade the pony-related rule with a simple 'also, x pony thread' line anyway. People have always done it, and honestly I can't see people stopping anytime soon.
It links back to the clubhouse mentality /oat/ posters have where they never want to leave their board, and want to make all their threads there.
Things related to individual posters… remind me why that shouldn't be on /chat/?
/oat/ isn't a personal message board for the /oat/ community.

Mainly because there are DIFFERENT posters in /chat/ and /oat/.

If /oat/ users went to chat to ask a question they want directed at /oat/ users, the /chat/ users would basically ignore it or go 'wtf, who are you and why should we care?'

I didn't think this was a complicated thing to understand, but apparently I was mistaken.

Again, it can be posted in the serial thread if one is made, or the donut bar. Or in a skype chat, or a steam chat. That's how how the boards work, and it's the reason serials aren't confined to /chat/ only

You do realize the Donut Bar has been gone for like 3 weeks, right..?

Besides, you seem to be missing the point entirely so it really doesn't matter anyway.

Yes, I do realize that. Again, "if it is made." All it takes is someone making one, even you, and boom,; it gets stickied, you guys can be off topic all day long at each other and have fun in the sun forevermore. Same as if you make a proper serial thread, except it won't get a sticky. And no, I'm not missing the point, you're just apparently not willing to listen to what I'm saying. /oat/ has a remarkable amount of leniency applied to it, and that's a wonderful thing as I've said multiple times. It even allows for derails into completely non-pony stuff as long as its a natural motion and not a hostile takeover of a thread.

However, just flat out allowing people to make threads that have nothing to do with ponies in the silly funny pony board is going to make it stop being a silly funny pony board and turn it into basically another version of /chat/. Yes, when those threads get moved, they don't make much sense on /chat/; all the better reason not to make them in the first place. Or, make a serial like /pony/ did when they wanted to be off-topic. Or maybe even get people to branch out and stop posting on one board and one board only, though that's got a snowball's chance in hell!

Either way, there are rules in place on all boards that allow you to make serial threads on-board for easier access if you want which let you accomplish anything you could do by making a bunch of threads about /oat/ posters; it's just, for some reason, no one on /oat/ is taking advantage of them. And there's no reason to restructure how things operate on /oat/ when all the stuff you need is already there.
