Curious Refreshing Behavior !7iNNPsLMuM 12781

Hello, I am terribly sorry if this is common knowledge, but I've noticed a strange behavior in the Refresh Countdown thing, and I figured this would be the best place for answers.

It seems that after a few minutes in a thread that doesn't gain any new replies, the countdown will increase by a few seconds (two or three, usually, but I've seen up to five seconds). It will return to normal when a post finally turns up, or it's manually refreshed.

Again, I'm sorry if this is something that I should already be aware of, but I just wanted to make sure if this was normal, or if I'm being haunted.

Thank you for your time.

I recently made the timer start increasing to a maximum of 10 minutes if there hasn't been any activity in the thread for 15 minutes. Any new posts or clicking the "Update Now" button will reset it. I might scale back the rate that the timer ramps up by.

Thank you for the reply!

That is good to hear that this wasn't some bizarre hiccup, so I have to ask, will the option to turn it off also be given at some point?

Mouse over the update timer.

That only lets you configure whether threads auto-update or not. (I do mean to make those settings show up in the settings menu too sometime.) It doesn't give options to the interval back-off rate.

Ideally the interval back-off rate would be low enough to not really be noticeable (besides to people looking specifically at the timer). I just scaled it back so it takes two hours of inactivity before it starts to slowly kick in, and it goes up to a maximum of 5 minutes between thread polling.
