According to a recent poll, there are about 50 active users on /anon/ in the past few months.
If there's anything I agree with moot on that he has said before, it's that having your favorite website be more obscure compared to ridiculously popular is probably better. He actually said that he wouldn't care if 4chan slipped off the radar and went back to having only 30 or so users like in the beginning, and I'd have to say that makes sense.
I've said this several times before–the larger the userbase, the more inevitable shitposting and spam will become–and I don't mean the fun kind of shitposting, I mean the people who ruined 4chan boards like /mu/ with all that "*tips fedora*" kind of bullshit.
So yeah even though /anon/ is slow as hell, it's still pretty much my favorite place on the internet. My hope is that when people realize there is more to it then just pony porn, they will come to it. For example we have threads about music, video games, visual novels, other cartoons we like, etc. If anything it's more of an off-topic board as opposed to just /mlp/ with porn, which I think is how a lot of people view it (and to be fair, they have a point).
But the more people we can bring to /anon/ to talk about things other
than ponies and pony porn, but still have that as the "uniting factor", the better I think it will be.
