"They should honestly just make sages invisible. That way people who actually are using the sage properly can just do it, while those using it as a way of "downvoting" will probably resort to means such as putting it in the subject or name field, if at all. So it would cut down on the attention whore sagers, and easily root out the ones that are using it for the purpose of making their disdain public."

The sage isn't a downvote button, so I second this.

3rd it!

The Vulture!3bqGraff0U 10308

How would it be invisible?

Kok Lord 10332

No blue name for the e-mail field I suppose.

Also it would help if people were discouraged from repeatedly voicing their sage, because it's annoying and only causes more shitposting..

Or we could just stop commenting on shitty threads and bump them down by posting on the good ones! Holy shit!.

I agree.

One potential drawback of invisible sages is that people might notice the thread did not bump despite a recent post and think it must be bugged or bumplocked.

Kok Lord 10340

Once again, the problem is solved if we don't comment on these shitty threads. We hide thread and go on with our lives. Now that I think of it, sage may as well not be there, because nobody uses it correctly anyway.

no seriously. this OP is a good idea.

hey, EFchan does it. works nicely.

tho, you get people to go out their way to sage#sage it

and this might get idiots to put it in the subject field and will cause it to get just as stupid…

sooooooo, i guess it's best to leave it alone.

just throwing an idea out:
what if it was set up so if you put sage in the subject field you would given a message "sage is for commenting without bumping the thread, it is not a downvote"?

>you get people to go out their way to sage#sage it

That's because everyone has to know I'm using sage correctly.

Kok Lord 10352

I like this.

Sage goes in all fields.

Kok Lord 10357

Sage is pronounced sah-gay. You've failed.

File: 1377018656668.png (239.08 KB, 672x628, 11.png)

yes! if only tho!

Anonymous 10360

And that's not all that's pronounced sah-gay apparently…

But yes, I believe that nothing can go wrong with this, and I give you my support.

Anonymous 10364

Not a bad idea. Honestly I think this should be a standard for any imageboard.

Or maybe they could slap people with one day bans for putting it in a place other than the email field. It would help even more at rooting out the attention whoring "downboaters". Might be a bit extreme, but it is rather annoying seeing people use the sage feature, especially multiple times in the same thread, to comment on how much they hate said thread or the person they're replying to. I mean, it just screams "GUYS, I DON'T LIKE THING!!! EVERYONE NOTICE ME!!!"

Kok Lord 10368

30 minute bans are far more practical.

this would also be a bit of work for mods having to ban anyone who sages a thread and makes it known.

Mewtini 10369

Make it an auto ban then?

Kok Lord 10372

Good idea.

Kok Lord 10373

However it could only be done with the subject field.
