Your site will be subject to a massive DDoS attack tomorrow. I am not the perpetrator, but was informed of this. Just so anonthony knows if he can prevent it somehow.

Can't you at least find a more interesting method of threats? Threatening a DDOS is like threatening to hire a bunch of fat people to clog the rotating door at the entrance of a building. Sure, it's annoying, but anyone with a bunch of fat friends can accomplish that. Can't you threaten a sweet oceans 11 heist instead? I wouldn't be surprised if the imagemagick and avconv executables used on this site server have buffer overflow vulnerabilities. Maybe there's a simple XSS vulnerability around here somewhere; I haven't gotten around to putting up Content-Security-Policy HTTP headers yet to close that possibility off for good.

Mature Dammit Userscript Skybrook!8MDcALmdno 14203[View]

I couldn't keep the cookies or whatever that keep the mature setting set, so I went and made a userscript that does it more permanently and decisively. (Hard not to notice your browser deleting user script files). If you too can't figure out why your browser keeps treating them like session cookies and making you click Show Mature every gosh darn time, then this may be helpful to you.

It's a little weird since it runs the script from the page context, not the userscript context… easiest way to get at setSettings that I could find.

http://pastebin.com/wGy4tVyA

It doesn't break any rules I think, since installing this is a conscious effort as much as clicking the "Show Mature" button is. Just gets around buggy persistence errors.

Right, but the file changes every time they re-obfuscate it, even if they never changed anything. So they update it more often than needed, is what I'm trying to say. If they only updated when needed, then they could respect caches, no busting needed.

(really, if you're going to modify a file tons, is it too hard to say, add a last-modified header, or an expires header? oh well...)

Macil!/5s/Techmk 14701

>>14700
They do use both of those headers. The problem with the last-modified header is that a browser still has to make a round-trip to the server to know if it can still use its cached copy of the script. The problem with the Expires header is that if you update the site, you have to wait for that period of time before you know all the users have the updated version. By changing the file's URL when there's an update, they force browsers to disregard their cached copy immediately and download the new version, and then cache it as long as possible with a long Expires header. This site does the same thing.

Skybrook!8MDcALmdno 14710

>>14701

>> the problem with the Expires header is if you update like a caffeinated weasel in a bounce house you're going to have a bad time

I agree that links should support more metadata than just the URL, like modified time, but I ain't the w3 sadly. In particular it'd be nice to be able to tell the browser what referrer to use when following a link. My complaint is that they update too often, and not to improve anything. A good site shouldn't need to change its javascript every month.

I was wondering what's the policy on using proxies to escape a net blocker? I was planning on going to Disney World, where they block any site even the least lewd in their hotels. I was thinking if I posted I was in my trip with a proxy if that would be okay.

This might be pointless as I usually am too dead tired from walking through the parks, but it'd be good to know the rules on this.

Anonymous 14689

Proxies are common and as long as you're not a known ban evader I don't see the problem.

Invalid/missing HTTP referer JadedPony 14577[View]

I was unable to post on this site for a while until I figured out what was causing the error. There is an extension called Fix Url Links Redirect for Chrome which has an option box that lets you block your HTTP referer header. It's just one of the features you use to not be tracked online. If you have this enabled you can not post on this site at all. You might want to fix that since most browsers are moving to the new referer= css function, soon when people start updating their browsers they are going to be unable to post at all.

Macil!/5s/Techmk 14579

The referrer header is used here to protect from csrf attacks in posting. No common browser exposes the option to disable referrer headers in the UI, so making posting not require the header isn't a high priority for me.

See if you can set your browser extension to only disable cross-site referrer headers or to not disable referrer headers on form posting instead.

JadedPony 14622

Disabling that feature of that addon fixed it. I'm wonderful now. I just wanted to make a post in case someone else had the same problem.

Honestly, I don't care if sites know what sites I come from to get there. It's not like I'm going to HookersandBlow.com or something.

I'm not sure why hiding where you clicked from would even be a feature you would need.

I tried it for about two years before I couldn't get away with it anymore, I wish I could have it back.

At least you even have friends.

Anonymous 14613

>>14612
Eh, different people have different preferences then. I end up sinking into completely inactivity if I don't "need to" do anything. Wanting isn't enough.

Have you tried making friends? These are my first friends in 9 years.

Anonymous 14614

>>14613

Well, technically I have some people who you could argue are "friends", but I don't like them very much and I only see them when I have to. They're okay to talk to about certain things with sometimes, but I much prefer talking with people online.

When I had all the free time I wanted I was far from being perfectly happy but now that I DON'T have it I really wish I did, and I didn't have to worry about being places I don't want to be, talking to people I don't want to talk to, doing things I don't want to do etc. every week.

Site not remembering any of my setting/watched threads Anonymous 14453[View]

See subject, I have been using this site all day every day on both my personal desktop and laptop since last year, and it's been mostly fine, but I just had to switch laptops, and this new laptop will not remember anything I do (besides my actual posts).

When I first got on this site on this new laptop (well really it's not new, it's just not mine), I went into the catalog on /anon/ and /oat/ and watched almost every thread I'm watching on my other computers (probably somewhere between 30 and 50 threads, a lot, it took a while).

Then I logged off, came back the next day, and they were all un-watched, and my settings had been completely reset. I don't get it. I'm using Firefox (should be the latest version), the laptop is a Thinkpad with Windows 7.

pls halp

Oh, and also, I know it wasn't done by someone else because I tested it again.

Check that you don't have cookies disabled and that they aren't set to be cleared when you close your browser.

What browser extensions do you have installed?

Anonymous 14469

>>14465

"Firefox will: Use custom settings for history."

>>14468

Cookies are enabled, and I have Skype Click To Call, Greasemonkey (for 4chan X) and Adblock Plus for extensions.

However I think the problem may be solved, it didn't happen again this morning. It may have been because I was in private browsing mode. I remembered the same thing actually happened on my phone once.

Macil!/5s/Techmk 14470

>>14469
Yeah, Private Browsing mode will definitely stop settings from saving. Besides clearing your history, it makes your browser forget anything that sites try to get your browser to remember (like cookies, or your site settings here).

My end of the job is already done, I believe. We're just waiting for macil to move the title counter and sound notifier function so it only goes off when a post is visible. You know, since you don't want the notifier sound to go off on a filtered post nor do you want it to be counted towards the number of new posts of their respective page tabs. We have about 500 lines of code done so far.

From what I understand from Macil, the site has phased out of the setup with the individual files and now uses a system of modules instead. You can still find the contents of it inside main.js however, but the current setup uses Traceur to take advantage of new ECMAScript 6 syntax that would otherwise be entirely unreadable for any marginally dated browsers.
