Isn't that a bit presumptuous?

I really, really hope they don't overdo this. A BG pony episode could be really interesting but I also feel it could backfire horribly...
But anyways, I guess it's time to start talking pony, hype or not. Haven't watched the trailers, probably won't be, though I did read the press release. Gonna be just blanket spoiling anything below because black bars are ugly.
I fear I'm going to be calling a lot of bullshit when the first two episodes air, with them doing even more with cutie marks. I haven't been super happy with how malleable they seem to have become, but if that's what it's going to be, I guess that's what it is in this new show.
First thing to start with, giving up your cutie mark. Do they literally lose their cutie mark or are they simply covering it up with something different? If it took the Elements to basically mindraping pretty much every single pony other than Twi to change the cutie marks and "destinies" of the Bearers I'm going to have to assume there is some new magic they'll be calling upon here. If the cutie marks are actually gone or changed, that is.
Twilight Sparkle Sunset Shimmer Starlight Glimmer and her "sinister view on friendship" sounds like something that could be interesting if done well. I'm torn, since I both want her to have a solid case behind her but also want her to be straight up bad/evil so that the cutie mark and individuality Equestria has stay as, I don't know, utopistic as I want them to be. There have been some fics that make the argument for cutie marks not having to dictate what you do and what-not, but that has already been the case in the show. I suppose I'll have to wait and see what her views are and how they are delivered to go any further on that.
One thing I've been saying and thinking a lot for a good long while now has been that the M6 and especially our Twitwi are getting so ridiculously strong that there shouldn't be any villain that could seriously challenge them with just power alone. Someone who apparently had the power/magic of all the ponies of Equestria and Discord wasn't enough, and it at least seems like this "rainbow power" isn't tied to any necklaces that could be dealt with. Even before that they were getting stupidly strong. What we needed were villains who aren't just that, but actually require some other means of defeating them. I mean, all the major villains so far have been more about the way to get to the magic MacGuffin, usually the Elements, so they could overpower whatever threat they currently had.
But if they were against something or somepony who couldn't simply be blasted with the Elements, or the Crystal Heart, or magic sparkly friendship rainbows? What if the goal wasn't to get to the MacGuffin to solve the crisis at all? To me this episode seems to be promising that, and I've waited oh so long for it. I really, really hope they deliver on that front.
The season in general, according to the release
"a journey that embraces such themes as individuality, coming of age, facing fears and achieving your dreams."
Yet another Fluttershy faces her fears episode confirmed?
The others seem to heavily point to the CMC, though that could just be me choosing to read it that way. But cutie marks and coming of age are linked, so... Individuality seems to be a theme at least in the first two episodes as well. Achieving your dreams could be many things, one of which could be Dash and the Blunderbolts... Not so much to go on here, I think. Too many things that sentence could refer to.
But of course, my expectations, preferences and desires seem to be rather different from most of the viewerbase, and of course from the direction of the show in general. Gotta wait and see! ...and we really better get some screentime for Rose this season, and without that damn doctor hanging around thank you very much!
