My favorite episode. Canon-wise, this episode gives Pinkie more depth than anything before or since. It's unusual for a chaotic character to show such stark vulnerability (think about what it would be like if Bugs Bunny had a legitimate existential crisis). The breakdown itself approaches (but doesn't quite reach) Ren and Stimpy levels of mental disturbance, without any kind of wink or nudge. The plot trajectory and resolution bring about one of the most mused-upon themes in the fandom–arguably, more has been made of Pinkamena than of Pinkie. Its placement at the end of the season makes it an intriguing loose end in an overall rounded-out scheme.
Meta-textually, I love this episode because nothing happens to allay the sense of Pinkie's madness. It's only a return to status quo
that brings about the ending, but we are left with the impression of Pinkie's psychological fragility. Symbolically, she makes a descent to hell but doesn't come back. Pretty fun for a kid's show!>>415127
Funny, you'd think it would be the other way around. Or are you pulling a me?
