Why I'm Not Coming Lisbon!EZSlut7tis No.3242230
Hello everyone. I know Anonthony said he'd autosage any threads like this that crop off, but, well, fuck Anonthony.
I will not be silenced, and I have many things I need to say. As you can probably guess from the title, I will not be joining you all on the other side, on Ponychan. This is for a variety of reasons, which I will touch on in turn, but enough rambling on about what I'm going to talk about; let's get to it.
I'd like to tell you a story. This happened ages ago, so some of the details are a little cloudy in my head. Forgive me but I never really bothered documenting everything I said on an imageboard dedicated to fucking horses (fucking either an adjective or verb here, depending who you ask).
I remember the main topic veered off pretty quickly. I remember some of the things that some guy said. He had a name but I can't remember what it was. I suppose it's not important. Individuals have an uncanny ability to speak for entire groups better than one might first expect. Well, some of the things this guy said were utterly ludicrous. It was impossible to keep track of his train of thought. I certainly doubt he could manage to do this himself, let alone anyone trying to read the garbled mess he called communicating. It was embarassing, it was horrible, and, I'm afraid to admit, it was a little more common than I would've liked around here.
I mean, I've met some great people here. I've met some assholes too. One thing all these types have in common is just how dumb so many of the things they say are. I know I'm no saint here; I've probably pissed you guys off as much as you've pissed me off. I'm sorry about that. It doesn't change how seeing this stuff affects me as a person.
Anyway, I've veering off track. I told myself I wouldn't do that and I'm sorry I did, to you all and especially to me. Not tooting my horn here, it's just I have to put up with myself the most so I figure I owe myself the biggest apology, right? I've done it again. NEW PARAGRAPH!~
This guy was saying some stupid things. Some very, very stupid things. Entirely unfounded words, phrases, and overall he was coming across as one of the worst people I ever met. But something was even worse; he was getting a following.
There were people standing idly by nodding and going along with what he said. I couldn't take it! Who could? It took me a while to come up with a proper response, but I finally eked the words out.
"I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux."
That is what I said, and that is why I am leaving you all. Except Queenie. Goodbye.
