>Will Scootaloo learn to fly?

Perhaps. If not, then she will probably learn to work with her friends as a team to achieve her goal somehow.

>Or will someone earn a cutiemark?

As surprising as this might sound, I think it might be a little early for that.

Should it happen in the episode, though, I wouldn't complain.

>Why is Diamond Tiara such a cunt?

Because her family is rich and they did a pretty piss poor job of raising her to NOT be a spoiled brat.

Scootaloo will clearly need mechanical assistance.

Fortunately, Rainbow Dash has experience…

>Will Scootaloo learn to fly?
In this episode? I'm not counting on that. Maybe she will, but it doesn't sound like it would be very integral to the plot judging by the synopsis. Of course, the synopsis doesn't really tell us that much, who knows if she'll even help them win this competition by flying. The title kinda is Flight to the Finish, so maybe…

>Or will someone earn a cutiemark?

Like Shoxy, I think this might be a bit early but I wouldn't complain if somepony did get their cutie mark.

>Why is Diamond Tiara such a cunt?

It's got to be her destiny. 'cos it's what her cutie mark is telling her.
Seriously, though, I don't know. Maybe she didn't get enough hugs as a littler filly and is expressing it that way. Maybe she never learned to love. Maybe she doesn't fully realize what she's doing. …or maybe she knows and just likes it.

Anywho, this episode is probably going to be rather meh for me, since I'm not that invested or interested in Scoots or the CMC in general. At any rate it's going to be interesting to see how this Ed Valentine pulls the characters off and if Twilight will be shoehorned into this episode or not.

>Will Scootaloo learn to fly?
My prediction (and hope) is that, while she can't fly, she comes through for her team in some other significant way.

>Will someone earn a cutiemark?

I say no.

>Why is Diamond Tiara such a cunt?

She's a lesser henchman of Dr. Robotnik.

My other prediction is that Rainbow Dash wants the glory of representing Scootaloo's class, so she fills in for her and makes the episode about her instead.

Cross-posting because lazy.

To make a quick list:
- The episode was very, very predictable
- The song was okay-to-good, except the chorus which was just annoying, repetitive and felt lazy to me. The whole horse thing doesn't quite make sense to me in the context of the show, either. I mean, the shadow seemed to be a regular pony stallion. They are ponies, not horses
- Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon confirmed for being jerks to achieve something. They were delightful. Also I like them, as characters
- The CMC actually seem to have gotten over the whole blank flank thing. FINALLY
- Harshwhinny was fun
- Yay Cheerilee
- DT and SS didn't poke at Sweetie and her lack of magic
- How fast can Scootaloo actually go on her scooter, and how much stamina does she have? She got into Crystal Empire in time on her own while dragging two other fillies and didn't look worn out at all when they did their routine. Oh, and she hadn't slept in two days, instead having spent that time practicing her flying
- The Bearer of the Element of Loyalty doing the whole "never leave a friend behind" thing
- Nopony pointed out that Dash inadvertently caused the problem here because of holding back her gushing. Not that I'd want her to be punished for it, just somepony pointing it out would have been nice
- Scoots had a home. Whether it is an orphanage or her family's place is still unclear. But at least she doesn't sleep in the clubhouse.
- No Twilight
- Granny Smith's high five… err high one? made me chuckle

There are probably more things but this isn't meant to be a proper rambling. Overall, as I predicted, the episode was pretty meh for me. Not a huge fan of the CMC, so not many feels were had. It was okay, but will probably be one of those episodes I'll just forget about.

Okay, in this week's episode we finally got something fans had been asking for, and had wondered if it was ever going to be addressed. It acknowledged these things, but didn't quite give a definitive answer one way or another. So, time for some rambling, after the break.

So. Rose, after over a full season of absence, is back. Praise Luna. We also have something that could be taken as an explanation of where she's been. When seen in the background she was with none other than Doctor Whooves. The Doctor and Rose, of course, is clearly a reference to Doctor Who. This raises a few interesting questions. Does this mean Rose is the travelling companion of Whooves? Has she been off on adventures?

If Rose indeed is the Doctor's current companion, the question is whether she is the actual Rose just in pony form or if the Doctor picked a new Rose. Not actually having seen Doctor Who and not knowing if this could even fit anywhere in there, and of course just because, my preference is that she's actually a pony and that's the pony incarnation of the Doctor.

It would be interesting to see if they are going to keep going with this, or if it was just a one-time visual reference they pulled. Personally I never was big on the whole Rose and Whooves thing, and it seems it never did become a huge thing, so it doesn't quite fit into my own headcanon of Rose, and the Rose I have in my head. But that's of course quite understandable. I highly doubt all ponies are bi or lesbian, either, so it's not like the Equestria in my mind is quite canon, anyways~

Right, where was I? Rose and Doctor possibly becoming a thing in the show. It would be kind of interesting to see this happen more and more, though it has been established that Rose has been around long enough for her to win with her calla lilies at least once in an earlier year. Maybe this adventuring thing is something new that just recently happened? Or maybe I'm reading way too much into this and they just happened to be walking together in the background.

Maybe we'll start to have more pics of Rose and Whooves now, too. Or Rose in situations that would arise from that connection. I'd love me some more Rose.

…what? You thought I would ramble about the episode? Nah, didn't really make me want to, no strong feelings any way. I might ramble about Flutterhulk sometime later, though…

>Nopony pointed out that Dash inadvertently caused the problem here because of holding back her gushing. Not that I'd want her to be punished for it, just somepony pointing it out would have been nice
I didn't interpret this as an error on Dash's part. People aren't always vocal about their appreciation for an artist/performer (sometimes intentionally so, when honoring a role). It's all part of the soup of self-doubt–and it is, after all, an episode about self-doubt.

In connection with this, it's interesting that Dash seems to be growing into a new role of her own–that of the trusted mentor, and must learn when and how to express approval/disapproval in a way that supports the children she coaches.

File: 1387061426541.png (155.75 KB, 482x801, 18318__safe_rose_source-needed…)

Oh, I didn't mean it as an error on her part, and that was probably just unfortunately worded, since it's what people seemed to assume on Pchan, as well. It is simply what made things worse for Scoots there and made the self-doubt make sense. Had Dash told them she loved their routine she wouldn't have had reason to believe their routine was good enough. Well, not as much reason, since they would have had Dash's backing but the flying thing could still have been an issue.

And yeah, I'm aware why people aren't always vocal, I do that myself, as well. Just wanted to point out that here it was part of the problem.

That is a nice role for Dash, and if they keep that direction it could be really interesting.

And speaking of predictability, one thing I was surprised about in this episode was how the CMC "fight" (the first real one, if I'm not mistaken) was latticed over the struggling-Scootaloo motif. It actually caught me a little off guard when AB accused Scoots of making the show "all about [her]". The way I thought it was going to go was that Scoots was going to get depressed and it would be up to the other two to cheer her up; but in a way the opposite kind of happened.

The Person Who Posts As Fluttershy (Element of Self-descriptive Usernames) 27243

I think Dash was trying not to appear to play favorites.
It's not fair to blame her for anything. The problem was deliberately created by dt and ss

Anonymous 27244

So many chances to answer the questions everyone had on Scootaloo.

What's her family like? Does she even have a family? Why can't she fly? Will she ever be able to fly? What about Sweetie Belle's magic?

Seems like they want to keep the book open for more episode ideas, so keep on that status quo of being vague. "She has a room, so she's not homeless. Still don't know anything about her family or if she has one. Can't fly now. Maybe will maybe won't fly in the future."
I really just feel like we didn't get anywhere. I wasn't entertained. They used their pinkie fingers to try to tug at my heartstrings, but not a single feel was had.
I guess it just serves as a reminder that the Equestria Games is still a thing. The "you're awesome because you're you" moral kind of fell flat on it's face with all of the questions this episode could have but failed to answer…

Heavy Mole 27245

File: 1387129930546.png (94.96 KB, 403x403, lucy223.png)

I personally prefer that they keep certain things open; I'd rather not have my question of "Are Applejack's parents dead?" answered with "Nope! They're traveling salesponies," or some comparable thing. Then again, my interest in world-building is very small–enough to care about a plausible continuity, but with the rest for the birds.

I do agree that they seemed to be tugging at the heartstrings with their "pinkies"–not because the wrong parts or direction was chosen, but because the whole thing was paced so quickly (epitomized by the almost Looney Tune-esque speedy wrap-up). There were a couple moments of emotional weight that could have really stood to be lingered on a little longer than they were.

But I liked it, still, and would say that Scootaloo is two for two so far!

Wasn't an episode I loved, and I like the CMCs. Didn't hate it either though.

-Snowflake got a chuckle out of me. Wonder we'll see that play a part in any future eps.

-Liked seeing Scootadash.

-There can now be no doubt that Granny Smith is rad, though the slo-mo was unnecessary IMO.

-Didn't care for the songs, though I rarely do anyway (sorry Daniel).

-Visually, the show sure has come a ways.

-The ending was predictable right from the start, which is pretty bad when you consider that I shut my brain off for first viewings.

-Kinda disappointed we didn't get to see some of the competition's entries. Really didn't help with that race-to-the-predictable-ending.

Overall, the story seemed kind of weak. Some good moments though, no terrible moments, nice animation eye candy, and most importantly–NO FUCKING TWILIGHT. About time.

Now I know what "Daring Don't" fans feel.

The episode is pretty fun but it is seriously flawed. SPOILERS AHOY:
>new voice for Cheerilee
>Dash's attitude
I mean come on she was almost Pinkie levels of obnoxious and clueless
>intrusive song with bad lyrics
little kids singing "mojo" is just… and why repeat "heart of a horse" so much?

>pacing too slow very little happened in this episode
>barely explored Scoots' disability
>missed chance to see Scoots' home
>CMC don't care about Scoots' problem I really expected this episode to solidify their friendship but instead
>plot resolved by Rainbow Dash all it took was RD saying the same stuff as earlier which brings up
>generally redundant dialogue it feels like they were saying the same stuff over and over
>getting to the Empire by Scoots alone who needs flying when you can travel the country like it's nothing?
>CMC win just like that a special award would've been more believable
>Harshwhiny OOC for cheap laughs

In the end it was pretty cute and fun, Scoots bit where she "tries 30 times harder" is even a bit touching, but the flaws are just too apparent.

I prefer headcanons getting crushed.
I don't need an explanation for every single thing in Equestria, but some very basic answers would be nice. Then again, I fucking hate the fanon crowd with a fucking passion because 99% of all fan canon is utterly retarded.
Oh, and it's been confirmed by staff that AJ's parents are dead. The shooting stars at the end of AFR represented them watching over the farm. How's that for tugging the heart strings?

File: 1387212242587.jpg (16.68 KB, 346x324, 1319829788550.jpg)

s'why I'm asking

File: 1387213732898.png (166.39 KB, 418x527, Babs467.png)

Anyway ..
I figure if the CMC ever get their cutie marks it'll be as a group. I'd be fine if they never did, but if they do, considering the format of the show, I assume that they'd have to do it together, in one final group project.
And if that ever happens, well .. alright ..
but I wish Scootaloo had gotten her cutie mark in this episode. I imagine she's the oldest of the three anyway, and the closest to "getting it", as she already routinely does the thing she's obviously best at ..
but moreover, I would love to see an episode dealing with .. well .. with friends changing. What if Scootaloo got her cutie mark and grew out of the cutie mark crusaders?
Would they still remain friends? Would their relationship be strained because of it?
What if Sweetie and Apple Bloom didn't recognize Scootaloo as one of them any more?
"One Bad Apple" .. kiiiinda had some of these themes, I guess, with Babs rejecting the CMC and trying to buddy up with SS and DT, but it was about bullying and changing to fit in really. Besides, Babs wasn't there before or really after the events of that episode and she's really only significant in any capacity to Apple Bloom. Though it was nice to see that her change stuck, and she was making progress back home. Even if we didn't see her again for Apple Family Reunion, just the little bit at the beginning of that episode was enough to lend some continuity.

Hulkbow!SMASH/3FWA 27258

File: 1387225514685.jpg (124.17 KB, 1000x1000, oZbx8.jpg)

Making her overenthusiastic is far from the worst they've done to her (*coughcoughS02cough*). The whole competition links back to when she won it, so it makes sense to me that she'd be psyched about something that underscores her own awesomeness. Plus Scoots is like her own Mini-Me, so of course Dash will want to see Scoots (and friends) to be awesome as well.

Iunno, it works well enough for me anyway. As for the rest, yeah. Fun but not great episode pretty much covers it.

>they'd have to do it together, in one final group project.
That would be trite and cliche and way too easy. It'd be more interesting to see the dynamics of one getting hers first and how they cope with it…as you say later in your comment. Heh. I should read all the way through before replying.

>she already routinely does the thing she's obviously best at

Maybe? Pinkie routinely bakes stuff, but that's at best only tangentially related to her cutie mark.

I like seeing new characters come about and expand the world a bit, but I like seeing them return later too, not just appear once as a plot device and disappear again. Though maybe I should qualify that a bit: So far, I like the new characters. If they were just getting churned out with no substance to them, like Hasbro churns out new recolors, I'd probably be less interested in seeing new characters come in at all. I tend to like what DHX has done with new characters though.

File: 1387238659185.png (323.51 KB, 636x625, Babs475.png)

>That would be trite and cliche and way too easy.
yep, and I'd rather not see it happen like that if it does, but it's what I'd bet my money on first.

>Pinkie routinely bakes stuff, but that's at best only tangentially related to her cutie mark.

Yeah .. and I mean, Sweetie sings, and Apple Bloom .. does .. apple stuff .. (or fixing stuff) pretty regularly too, but getting a cutie mark depends on the realization that the act is what makes you you. Pinkie didn't have any problem figuring that out. She aspired to making other ponies feel the sort of joy she saw in that rainbow and when she succeeded at it, she knew that's what she wanted to do forever. (She lucked out and got one of those cutie marks representing a more nebulous concept lel Rainbow Dash Presents)
I guess if baking was Pinkie's talent, she'd be Mrs. Cake anyway ..
yeah ..
my point is just that Scootaloo ramps off buildings on a semi-daily basis. It feels like it's just a matter of time until a competition comes up or she gets challenged (a la Rainbow Dash), pulls of a sonic scoot-boom and gets her rainbow mark. I kinda hoped this episode might be "that" for her, but I knew it was just a pipe dream.

As for Babs, I just had her in mind as an example of a past episode where they touched on the kind of theme you and I were talking about with:
>It'd be more interesting to see the dynamics of one getting hers first and how they cope with it
I was originally thinking it might be too advanced for them to want to touch, but I think it could be done ..
It's just that, to do it in one episode, you might end up with a MMC rush job, where the story has to be told and not shown because you've only got 22 minutes.
If there was an episode where one of the CMCs gets her mark before the others, it'd have to happen in like, the first minute of the show, then the rest of the ep would be the other two dealing with that ..
and I don't like the thought of doing it that way because there's no way it would make Scootaloo (or whoever) getting her mark feel significant, if it just happened before the theme song ..
Having that happen at the end of this episode, would have made it feel earned, and then it would have allowed some time to pass between that ep and one where the other two CMC are still getting used to their friend having her mark already.
It *would* have worked so well ..
