The first three books of A Song of Ice and Fire.

Starks are total broskies, Lannis are dickbeards. Only Jamie can be considered likeable.

Same. I'm reading the first book in the series, and it's honestly quite hard to put it down once you've started reading. And i'm not even much of a reader.

Don't forget Tyrion, anon. Jamie and Tyrion. The rest are gigantic hyper cunts.

'Fifty Shades' is a Twilight fanfic with the serial numbers filed off. Of course, the more you rely on the specifics of the story you're fanficcing the harder it is to file those off.

Of course, fanfiction isn't respected or marketable in its native state.

Ugh. Danielewski takes shit too far and it gets too over the top and ridiculous. I'm talking downright stupid. I had such high hopes going in. I loved his sister's music so much, and she wrote a great album based off the book. I was seriously let down.

I can recommend his sister's music enough, her name is Anna Danielewski, but she uses the stage name 'Poe.' I'll post some youtube of her stuff here.

Johnny's rambling and the academic wanking shtick need a desperate edit. They're good for flavor but so far (I'm around page 70) they smother the story. Hopefully the focus on spookery increases, 'cause it's the good stuff.

I don't wanna give it away so I'll spoiler it, but shit gets super reflexive and meta, and not in a good way, IMNSHO. Though there is some interesting well written stuff in the appendices... some. Overall I really felt my time had been wasted.

The graphs do add a nice detail to the book. While everyone in the book is running around wondering what the hell is going on, you're sitting there shouting "LOOK AT THE NUMBERS YOU FOOLS. DON'T YOU KEEP TABS ON THE DINOSAUR POPULATION?"

I don't like how a lot of published work takes forever to get to the point. They'll spend twelve paragraphs on descriptions of a room, how everyone in it looks, the backstories of the furniture, and an anecdote the room reminds the protagonist of, but they won't hurry up and say what happens in the room already or why everyone is there. And that's not even getting into how hard it is to find something halfway original that's still written well. Most critically acclaimed stuff is either romance or a Tom Clancy clone.

I like reading clopfics for their story. Normal "romantic" literature centers around all the worst things about dating, but clopfics are always happy, and have a happy ending in both senses of the word.

>tfw you finally finish a book you've been chipping away at for weeks

I don't know why but I can only read in short bursts of 20-40 minutes once every day or two. The book I just finished was 312 pages long and I started it at the beginning of the month. I'm super hyped for the next books I'll be getting though. I'm gonna read the novels that the movie Drive is based on.
