What vidya have you been playing recently /anon/?

This is on sale digitally for the 360 for a mere five bucks today, and since I have already beaten and enjoyed the previous one (Arkham Asylum) I figured I'd snatch it.

I've gotten a little ways into it, it's more of the same, but pretty fun. I'm not even a major Batman fan, but these games are great. Beating the shit out of hordes of freak thugs is satisfying as hell. Also gliding and swinging around the grim city is fun too.

Max Payne 3, too bad the multiplayer is ded.

Diablo 3, shit's fun

Titanfall, uninstalled after third prestige because it's 50 motherfucking gigs uncompressed. But it was decent.

Ducktales remastered, never before since the original has my ass taken such a ferocious pounding, i'm horrible at platformers.

Shadow Warrior Classic Redux, this game is nostalgia pandering in every sense of the word, killer old-old school shootan action.

Battlefield Bad Company 2. One of my favorite FPS's of the decade, used to play it on the xbwaks until it came on sale for like five bucks on steam a few weeks ago.

>Max Payne 3

Man I thought that game was so boring, I mean I love super-violent shooters but that entire game was:

>watch cutscene

>go into room
>take cover
>wait for enemies to stop shooting
>pop out and shoot them
>repeat until all enemies are dead and the last one goes down in EPIC SLOW MOTION!!1!
>leave room
>go down a linear path to the next room
>repeat until you get to another cutscene

There was like no variation on the gameplay at all, except for maybe that one mission when you were on a boat shooting grenades out of the air, that was okay.

>Titanfall

I'm on third prestige/gen/whatever as well, I'm probably gonna stay there because the regen challenge is absurd, you have to get 50 titan kills with pretty much the worst titan gun in the game, the thing you have to charge up and it takes like two whole clips to take out one titan. It's just not worth it, especially since there is literally no reward for ranking up.

If you like puzzles, then they do get better to an extent.

The thing is, the Detective Mode makes the puzzles waaay too easy.

And combat gets more interesting when you start to run into enemies who have guns, because then you actually have to use some strategy and can't just charge in swinging.

>Saints Row 4

Has some fun parts but overall it is just not that good.

The open-world seems like the smallest, most cramped one with nothing but cities and bridges. Also for some reason it's almost always night time, which IMO sets a shitty atmosphere. There's also no auto-aim for pedestrians which is annoying for when you want to go on a rampage outside of a mission.

They just went too far by changing it from a crime game to a game about the world blowing up and fighting aliens and shit. Again, they just pushed the silliness too far to the point where it didn't work anymore.

Also, by the end of the game, the main missions get really repetitive and irritating. It's basically always: Run or drive all the way here, kill a bunch of aliens, destroy some generators or something, go to another place and do the same thing. They switch it up occasionally, like when you fight the giant soda can or the stealth mission, but overall it's just kinda boring.

And one more thing, there's not much incentive to use vehicles in SR4 for two reasons: 1. Early on you get superpowered unlimited sprint that lets you run faster than most cars, so if you need to travel a far distance for a mission it's easier to just use that. And 2. Your map doesn't show where the mechanic shops are, and even by the time I had beat the main story I hadn't found ONE. So unless I want to drive around the whole map until I just randomly find one, I can't customize my vehicle.

>Saint's Row: The Third

I beat this one with a friend in co-op, but I don't remember much about it, other than that you can play as a toilet and when you go on a rampage the military will actually come after you, which is cool. Oh, and you can play as a naked woman, but they blur out her boobs and butt.

>Saints Row 2

I think this is my favorite. I get some major San Andreas vibes from this game, and obviously San Andreas is a classic.

The main missions seem the most fun so of the series so far without being ridiculous, I'm only a little ways in but I've already done a prison break, a shootout in a courthouse, a shootout in a church, a shootout in a casino, and a mission where I had to go off of off-road jumps…and then there's the fight club side activity, and just running up on rival gangs when you're not on a mission is fun and you actually get rewarded for it with respect that you need to progress in the story. The way you can take over neighborhoods is cool and again similar to San Andreas.

And it does a lot of thing better than San Andreas, for example, CHECKPOINTS, and you don't have to go to your safe house to save, and you don't have to lose cops to start or finish a mission which is really convenient if you like to drive like a maniac.

I haven't played the original Saints Row.

I've been playing the fuck out of Dwarf Fortress. I know Adventurer's the main focal point, but there's something satisfying about becoming a legendary wrestler in adventure mode, as a Kobold, that is. You'd never imagine a <2 foot tall pushover of a thieving rat to be capable of shattering a fully armored human bandit's spine, much less learning the secrets of life and death, and raising an unholy army of fucking haggis. The haggis, incidentally, also manages to kick ass, despite each unit not being a full body.

Anonymous 416162

>>416029
I would say grab a mod that adds in adventurer reactions for crafting, but they come in two flavors: Horribly unbalanced, or nigh impossible to start.

Advfort for DFhack is pretty nice, but kobolds are forbidden to do most types of mining and smelting, I believe.

I'm using the Dwarf Chocolate mod because it adds more magic types that you can learn, and my usual goal is to try and find as many of them as I can.

DC also lets you play goblins and kobolds from known civs, but if you choose those, you also start out hated by damned near everyone. Your only safety would be the town you start in, as the humans there are mildly tolerant of your existence and won't attack you if provoked. Go anywhere else though, and you're a dead rat.

Anonymous 416419

>>416162
I pretty much run vanilla DF, with a few basic utility items like DFhack and Therapist.
Everything else, I usually just add myself.

Although, due to the nature of kobolds, depending on what group you belong to, some odd guy might try and kill you for no reason.
Kind of fun, though, because you can accidentally start a loyalty cascade that way,

The Third is the best one to go on rampages in though because the whole fucking military comes after you, whereas in SR2 you get a few cop/FBI cars and one helicopter.

I just played Dark Souls for the first time and I got bored really fast, it wasn't that it was too difficult but it was just that standing and hacking at a ghoul thing for like two whole minutes just to kill it because it has so much health was dumb.

I also ordered Mercenaries: Playground Of Destruction for original Xbox off of Amazon (I think it has backwards compatibility with 360 (but even if it doesn't I still own an Xbox), after hearing that it was a really good sandbox game, some people on /v/ were saying it was even better than GTA (but then again, that's /v/, so, you know).

There is this original title for Xbone that looked kinda cool, I forget what it was called but it was like a really colorful, cartoony combination of skating games and shooters.

And there was also some original fantasy game with giant monsters or something.

Also, I wouldn't call all of those series shitty…but I'm in the minority here when it comes to liking Halo and CoD. I've played some Fable 3 and it was okay, same with Crackdown, I liked the new Tomb Raider a lot, my brother is a big fan of Forza, I liked Deadrising 3 although I never actually finished it because my friend beat it before me and roped me into playing other stuff, I've played a good bit of The Witcher 2 and I think it's decent besides the story. Oh and I got pretty far into AC2, and that was fun. Only reason I stopped was because there was all this shit I couldn't find that you need to progress.

I'm surprised and somewhat disappointed that they didn't announce GTA V for Xbone, the idea of GTA V with next-gen graphics, much more people online, maybe some expansions or new features would be pretty cool. At least the mustard race still isn't getting it.

I'm a little disappointed in that game since most of the sense of exploring and survival felt taking away when most of the level designs are straight forward and you go and place bonfires in just about every area, along with just reusing bosses like the dragon riders, giants and gargoyles. As for pvp, it can go fuck itself, along with the bullshit handled blue sentinels guild. I don't hate the game i'm just find it upsetting that the game went from good to decent.

Anonymous 427782

I just don't understand how you can think GTA V is boring. I have almost 50 hours played JUST in single-player.

The main story itself lasts almost 20 hours, and then there's all the side missions, side activities like racing and parachuting and stunt jumping and flying under all 50 bridges and beating flight school and the firing range challenges…

And then of course there's all the properties you can own and manage and make money off of, and messing with the stock market and shit. And pimping out a sports car or a big truck with armor and bulletproof tires, then driving around dropping grenades and sticky bombs out your window, and then escaping the cops by driving out into the desert and mountains…

And then of course there's all the shit online, there's like 90 different races alone, with cars, motorcycles, trucks, ATVs, planes, fighter jets, jet skis…

Hhow you can find all of that "boring", especially when Saints Row has barely a fraction of both things to do and areas to explore?

Anonymous 427785

>>427782

Oh, and of course cheat codes! Make yourself invincible, give yourself explosive bullets and super-fast run, and then cause chaos at the military base or in the city with a minigun, or rocket launcher or any of the weapons you can get (which can now also have camos and attachments like extended mags and silencers and flashlights too).

Or buy a tank and drive it through the city blowing up every vehicle you see.

Or crash a massive plane into a mountain or skyscraper while your invincible so you survive and free fall all the way down safely.

Or get to the top of the tallest mountain, cheat to instantly get the max wanted level, invincibility, and spawn a sports car, then drive down the mountain and see how long it takes for the military helicopters to blow out your tires while you're falling and crashing into shit.

The list of things you can do in GTA V if you're creative goes on and on and on.

Anonymous 428062

>>427782
>>427785
Not him but I can give my two cents.

The missions all play the same, as do the side activities. Once you've done everything once there's no reason to do it again, and doing everything in the game once doesn't take long.

When it's the same snippets of gameplay repeated over and over, does it even matter how long it takes to finish?

On an unrelated note, I've been played the Destiny beta.

I went in with low expectations because all the gameplay looked boring, however actually playing it is a blast.

I will admit that the side missions are not nearly as fun as the main story ones, but there's some cool shit, like the one where you go stealth animal hunting as Trevor, or the one where you have to pop the tires of moving cars with a sniper.

Online is mainly pay to win bullshit, but I still think the racing and the custom tracks and stuff can be pretty fun.

Anonymous 428105

>>428103
I'll admit, I did like those mission's specifically the one where you spy on celebrities doing shit like fucking. It Had me laughing my ass off.
>Online is mainly pay to win bullshit,
Well that explains why I could hardly find any matches. As for the racing I don't mind it, but when that's all you do, it makes m want to kill myself. Especially when you keep joining people who refuse to at least do custom racing.

Anonymous 428111

>>428105

Yeah I will agree that racing gets old if you just sit and do it for hours, especially if you're playing with random people and not friends.

Online will definitely be more fun on PC and next-gen consoles when they can have a ton more people in one lobby, but it's not really a selling point for me because aside from the races you can do pretty much everything you do online in single-player as well.

The only thing that could really get me to buy it again is better cheat codes, such as infinite invincibility, invincible vehicles and ESPECIALLY a fucking never wanted cheat.

Lately I've been playing Cataclysm - Dark Days Ahead. It's a wonderful survival roguelike about a post-apocalyptic survival, and one of the few games that concentrate more on survival than fighting. Boil water before drinking, eat healthy, and keep your morale up with books, music and drugs. It's the only game where cooking your first post-apocalyptic coffee is a greater personal victory than killing a mutant bear.

You can get mutations from eating deformed fetuses, kill zombie hordes by burning down entire buildings, and build custom death mobiles with parts from wrecked cars. Among all the other crafting, from molotov coctails and nailboards to methamphetamine and armored clothing.

In the related picture I have managed to build a brazier for cooking with fire inside the evac shelter that I've reinforced as my base. Unfortunately there's still no chimney, but I avoid dying of smoke inhalation by wearing a firefighter mask while cooking.

Download available here: http://en.cataclysmdda.com/

I also recommend downloading the Coleens tileset, and setting the window size to something like 160 x 47 to get a better view of events: http://smf.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?topic=5746.0

Also, in the Special-section of the main menu is a tutorial, which helps getting started immensely. Give it a try and report your experiences!

A lot of other shooters are also in fact boring and repetitive.

People have been saying that for a long time. Where have you been?

Anonymous 430073

>>430068

Yeah, a lot of them. Not all of them. I play a ton of shooters, pretty much any popular shooter that's available on Xbox 360 I have played. GTA V is a game that really stands out among all the Call Of Duty clones.

Even though GTA V is a sequel, it's a sequel that actually dramatically improves and expands on it's predecessors. The last game I put as much time into single-player as I did with GTA V was Skyrim (more than 50 hours). There is an enormous variety of things to do, I just don't get how you can find it boring and think all it is is pointless shooting. It's not linear at all, and there's plenty of shit to do besides shooting people. You can jack all kinds of vehicles, customize their appearance and performance and then take them for a drive around the city, or the desert and mountains. You can do races, you can fly planes and helicopters, you can go parachuting off of huge buildings, etc. You can spawn a hundred or more cars on top of a mountain and then blow them all up at once.

GTA V is the kind of game that is the most fun for people who are really creative. The more of an imagination you have, the more time you will get out of it and enjoy it. Of course I could be biased because San Andreas was one of my favorite games when I was younger.

Do you see the point I'm trying to make?

Because they reuse some of the bosses and you pretty much revisit most of the same areas along with throwing in a couple of clashe's.s . Now this is my nit pick . I didn't really like the bird flying segments , on account of it took away the sense of adventure for me , since link could practically summon it just about anywhere and fly home to take a nap . Really I recommend , buying it when its cheaper . Don't get me wrong its still fun , just don't be too hyped about it , like me .

No I don't see the point you're trying to make. Listing it out doesn't make it any more interesting.

You're going to drive some vehicle to some place and shoot people with a gun.

No one is going to be surprised by what specific noun you put in that sentence, it's all predictable and expected.

Anonymous 431825

>>431802

So you don't see/feel the difference with the different vehicles and guns? You're saying that to you, driving a car and driving a fire truck feels exactly the same? Or shooting people with a pump-action shotgun is the same as shooting people with a semi-auto pistol, or a full-auto assault rifle, or a grenade launcher?

I'm not trying to surprise people. What shooters are good to you? What shooters do YOU enjoy that you don't think are just "go here, shoot these people"? Because that phrase sums up pretty much the entire genre.

And plus if you had even played the whole GTA V story you would know that not all of the missions involve shooting people.

Anonymous 431826

>>431825
>>431802

And also, what were you expecting from GTA V anyways? The genre of the game is third-person SHOOTER. And if you had ever played one of the many GTA games that came before it, you should have had a pretty good idea of how the mission structure generally works. They put such a huge focus on driving and shooting because of how much variety there is in how/where/why you do that.

You're not being logical at all.

Hahahaha. Are you fucking kidding me?

The game fucking aims for you. The only difference between guns is if you can hold to trigger or if you have to spam it.

The only difference between vehicles is how fast they go or whether they fit into category car or truck handling wise.

What shooters are good? None have impressed me lately. Wolfenstein was fun because it didn't take itself too seriously. Multiplayer shooters are good because other people are unpredictable.

But the game mechanics itself? Nothing good for a long time.

>And plus if you had even played the whole GTA V story you would know that not all of the missions involve shooting people.

Yeah, it went from go here and shoot this to just go here. Wow.

>what were you expecting from GTA V anyways?

An average game I can play once and sell. I got what I expected.

Anonymous 432154

>>432136

>The game fucking aims for you.

You can actually disable that if you want to.

And yeah, different speeds and handling make a pretty big difference for the dozens of vehicles.

I agree about multiplayer shooters, but I couldn't even finish Wolfenstein because it is literally Call Of Duty: Jews Versus Nazis Edition with no multiplayer. I got bored of it after the first few missions. Waste of money.

And again the whole "go here shoot this" thing is just you being ignorant and either having a very narrow view of video games, not having finished the GTA V story, not having experimented in free roam at all, or all of the above.

I could write out a huge list of different things to do in GTA V, but it would be meaningless to you because a lot of it involves guns and vehicles and apparently you don't understand those so whatever.

I've been playing the Destiny beta this morning, it's fun but ultimately it's like a cheap hybrid of Fallout and Halo except it's not as good as either Fallout or Halo.

There's not enough treasure to find, you can't loot corpses, and the enemies are piss-easy to fight.

I suck at video games but I had no problem taking out hordes of the "toughest" enemies by myself without even losing my shields once, let alone dying. The enemies have horrible aim, do barely any damage and sometimes they won't even shoot unless you literally stand right in front of them. There's no cover system either so there's just not much challenge in combat.

The story is cheesy and uninteresting too. It IS fun, and I haven't gotten in a lobby with a lot of people yet so I've mainly been doing things alone which goes against the whole nature of the game, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna be buying this when it comes out in full.

After beating all the enemies in all the weight classes with all types of designs, I decided to download a new AI pack to get more challenge. Well, it was like challenging a champion football team, only to learn that they're so good because they have 50 players on the field at the same time. Well-designed robots are one thing, robots with blades clipping through armor and each other an entire different kind of thing.

It's still a good game though. Just be careful with AI packs and avoid learning about the exploits that would ruin it.

Is it just me or does Nintendo seem to get a free pass when it comes to unoriginality?

People slam series like Call Of Duty and Battlefield for putting out "rehashes" constantly, but Nintendo does basically the same thing with their most popular series such as Pokemon and Mario Kart.

Why is their such a double standard? I mean I love Pokemon but even I can see that every game in the core series follows pretty much the exact same formula:

>you get either a fire, water or grass pokemon at level 5 from a professor named after a tree

>you have to earn 8 badges from gym leaders in different towns that all use different types and become progressively more challenging
>you have to stop an evil team along the way
>the final bosses are always the Elite Four and the Champion of the region
>you always have at least one rival who will show up and battle you unexpectedly a bunch of times, and usually has a pokemon that will counter your starter
>all the mechanics for battling and catching pokemon remain largely unchanged throughout the series--you can have six pokemon in your party at once, they can all know a maximum of four moves, the max level is 100, every pokemon has a max of two evolutions (not counting the new mega evolutions)...

...literally every time.

I've seen N fans go apeshit en masse if their franchise deviates at all from their beloved childhood version. Updating graphics and such is fine, but they want it to be the exact same game every fucking time. I don't get it. I mean sure, it's neat to see something old given a fresh update every few generations if it holds up well, but the same shit over and over and over just bores the fuck out of me. Guess that's why I never bothered with more than a couple N consoles. I don't see any point in getting the older ones I missed nor upgrading to the latest.

Anonymous 451113

>>451084

Oh yeah, speaking of graphics, Nintendo is still WAY behind the rest of the pack with that, so much that it's embarrassing. Same with their online experience.

They're definitely innovate in that they were the first big company to use things like motion control and touch screens for gaming, but it doesn't really matter when they release the same shit over and over with very little changes.

I am an absolute Pokemon FANATIC but even I'm tired of the more recent ones (gen 5 and gen 6 were pretty bad). I'm stoked that they're remaking gen 3 but I can't give them too much credit because it's not like it takes a lot of effort to remake old games for a much more powerful new system.

Here, this is how I described it to a friend I was talking to on Skype (slightly edited):

>It's like if you took Halo and Fallout, combined them but then removed 90 percent of what made them good so it's just a generic FPS.

>You can't loot corpses or collect anything really--if you completely run out of ammo, you just magically get more, which is cheap. There's no treasure to find anywhere, just huge empty maps. The enemies are just Covenant 2.0, same with the guns and the shooting mechanics and all that. I was playing solo and it wasn't challenging at all. There's really nothing interesting about it.

>Oh and the story is cheesy, it's basically "aliens took over the universe and now we have to kill them all" or something. Again, like Halo but without the depth that Halo had.

And sometimes you just get your money's worth, like when I turned in about a dozen shitty old games with a couple newish ones and got almost 200 dollars...that was alright, considering I assumed I would get much less.

Can we have a civil discussion on how PC gamers are the laughing stock of the gaming world?

Go on steam and every profile belongs to some spastic redditor autist with either a doge or a little cartoon girl as their avatar. Half of them idle in Tf2 while they shitpost on /r/masterrace.

They're the most vitriolic fanbase as well, constantly obsessing with graphics and framerates. Just running bland games like crysis for self-validation. Manchildren build elaborate computers just to strive to beat others in the e-peen contest, and brag about online to insight others into their hivemind.

They pledge and beg for petitions, and when the game gets out they pirate it in droves. Did I mention that the majority of them are fat and unsightly neckbeards as well?

Constantly they purchase unnecessary hardware upgrades due to their autistic attraction to colorful leds, which has led devs to say 'fuck it' towards optimizing since it's just a waste of time.

And what games do they have? May I remind you that PC's GOTY was Gone Home? FUCKING GONE HOME! All of their other games are fucking kikestarter alphas and autistic $300 spaceship simulators that won't be released till 2021. It makes me proud that generation defining game artists such as Hideo Kojima, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and Hideki Kamiya know to steer clear of the PC ass cancer.

Seriously, being a pc gamer is something to be ashamed of and is cancerous to gaming as a whole. It is my supreme belief that PC gaming should be a BANNABLE OFFENSE, considering that the PC market is the complete antithesis of videogaming.

Anonymous 457198

Obviously not if that's your first foot forward.

As a platform for playing games the PC is objectively superior.

Lately I reinstalled Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead, a post zombie-and-every-other-apocalypse survival game. Considering how much you can screw around in it, I wonder why it isn't more popular on boards like this.

Make coffee on a campfire of burning clothes. Blow up gas stations, or set buildings on fire to cover your escape. Weld spikes on cars and drive over zombie hordes while high, drunk and stoned. Craft weapons from rock-in-a-sock to chainsaw lajatang.

You can also get mutations and cybernetic implants, build log cabins or fortify buildings for safehouses, cook meth, and take care of your health by dressing according to weather and eating healthy.

You can get it from here: http://en.cataclysmdda.com/

If you want a tileset, I recommend Coleen's: http://smf.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?topic=5746.0

Dead Island is pretty fun, but it's annoying how if you're playing multiplayer, the missions you complete don't count. I joined a guy, did some missions with him, then he quit and it spawned me all the way back on the other side of the map at the last checkpoint I had gotten before joining him nearly 45 minutes ago.

Anonymous 463438

>>463410
I had fun with Dead Island. But holy shit that thing is full of bugs.

That fucking part at the end of the game where you had to make your way down the hill with that chick...

I fucking died on my way down and respawned at a completely different spot outside of that area (which I assume was little more than shoddy game oversight). Had to use that game-breaking backwards jump up the hill to even get back in there.

Anonymous 463443

>>463438

Yeah, because of the no saving/checkpoints in co-op thing, I'm still only on chapter 2.

The only major bug I'm having is fucking pop-in. I'll be running and suddenly patches of grass or trees will just appear a few feet away from me when I should have already been able to see them.

That and my weapons going through doors and walls when I stand in front of them.

Like, when I start it up, it tells me that the mod is working, but when I get in the game there is no mod menu and nothing seems different. Hatred is an isometric shooter with disturbing atmosphere of mass killing, where player takes the role of a cold blood antagonist, who is full of hatred for humanity. It's a horror, but here YOU are the villain. Wander the outskirts of New York State, seek for victims on seven free-roam levels. Fight against law enforcement and take a journey into the antagonist's hateful mind. Gather equipment of the dead ‘human shields’ to spread Armageddon upon society. Destroy everything on your way of hunt and fight back when it's disturbed...

...just don't try this at home and don't take it too seriously, it's just a game. :)

HOLY SHIT. THIS LOOKS GOOD.

Anonymous 467862

>>467856

Looks pretty cool but I wish it was regular third or first-person instead of top-down. I wonder what kind of controversy it will cause, considering it's basically a mass-murder simulator.

Anonymous 467863

I just got Warframe on my Xbone, it's a free game and it's surprisingly good. It's a third-person sci-fi/alien shooter and there are three classes to pick from, which you can alternate between at any time. The gameplay is pretty standard "go here, shoot these", but the graphics and detail are great and there's a surprising level of depth and detail for a free game. You can customize pretty much everything--your armor, the color of your weapons, you can craft your own weapons with components you loot from enemies or purchase with credits you earn by completing missions. It also has a leveling and upgrade system for both weapons and your overall character.

I also pirated Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition for PC which is awesome, the melee combat system is great and it's actually challenging and not just button-mashing and it has great environmental executions, countering, and grappling. It's an open-world crime game similar to GTA but with much better graphics and more destructive, comical physics, as well as some nice parkour.

Mostly it's the "killing just for shiggles and diggles" thing that might tee lots of people off. Plus the story might be just that. Some guy snaps and kills people at random.

SJW is mad because you kill womxn and minorities in it.

Anonymous 467867

>>467865

People are gonna say it encourages and glorifies killing sprees and all gamers are psychopaths and it should be banned. It already has more dislikes than likes on YouTube.

Plenty of games give you the ability to murder innocent people but this Hatred game is the first one where that's literally the only point to it, as far as I know.

In most other crime games, the main stories are about killing other criminals or "bad guys", so it's sort of justified to most people. Killing pedestrians is usually optional and in most games besides GTA you are actually punished for it.

Anonymous 473742

>>473729

I'll break it down:

>Pros:

-The exo-suit super jumping and boosting around is fantastic and makes the gameplay seem more fresh than the average CoD game. It changed the dynamic of the average player movement around maps in multiplayer in really good and fun ways.
-Most of the multiplayer maps are really good. They are much smaller than the ones in Ghosts but they are not shitty three-lane like Black Ops 2. And with the exo-suit you can now jump around a lot of roofs now instead of just sprinting everywhere.
-There doesn't seem to be any particular setup that is "overpowered". They nerfed panic knifing, you will not die by melee unless you are literally touching your enemy. Noobtubes are useless even with Danger Close. Quickscoping is back and it's kind of annoying but not nearly as annoying as previous games, especially since you are a much more difficult target when you can jump and boost around. Also I don't think there is any quickdraw for snipers which is good.
-Flak Jacket is actually useful.
-Killstreaks are powerful but much more difficult to earn and the really high ones don't last long at all, maybe like 45 seconds if even that. Just a UAV requires like six kills in most gametypes now. So basically you're not gonna get spawn-raped frequently. Also killstreaks are customizable, or you can remove them to have more perks and equipment, or have two primary weapons or whatever. There's a lot of different classes you can make.
-There's no more bullshit about prestiging requiring 300+ squad points like there was in Ghosts, you get to 50, fill the bar and prestige. Simple.
-No more support streaks so you won't have scrubs getting juggernauts and oracles and shit.
-Guns actually have recoil now and don't kill in 2-4 bullets, so it's possible to kill someone even if they shoot you first. It's not really challenging but there is much more of a learning curve than previous games in the series.

>Cons:

-Even though the maps are good, they don't seem very well-optimized for the new exo-suit. For some reason it seems like they didn't take into account the new movement styles when making the new maps, so moving can be awkward sometimes (for example lots of rooms that are too small to effectively use your jumps/boosts).
-Most of the perks are just rehashes of previous games, same with attachments and grenades. Also the custom exo abilities (invisibility, shield, etc.) are pretty much all useless (the good thing is you don't have to use them at all).
-The graphics and game engine haven't been significantly improved at all since Ghosts.
-A lot of the guns just plain suck. I found myself sticking to a couple SMGs and assault rifles for my first 50 levels (I just got to 1st prestige). Because of everyone being able to go sonic speed all over the place, using LMGs is pretty much pointless, and the three shotguns available are AWFUL, they have shit damage and shit range. Also the new riot shield feels like a piece of cardboard and the secondary pistols are borderline useless, I mean it's not like I expect them to be amazing but even as secondaries they're pretty bad.

I have about 15 hours played in multiplayer now, and I think what it basically boils down to is, if you like Call Of Duty games (especially the Black Ops ones) you will like this, if you don't then don't bother with it because it's *mostly* more of the same.

Personally I really enjoy it though.

I've been playing all morning. Matchmaking is kind of fucked up right now. It took me nearly 45 minutes to find a match and then I got my ass handed to me on a silver platter in a Halo 2 anniversary FFA. So I decided to go play the campaign. I did a warm-up on the very first CE mission on easy (I hadn't played in months) and then I redid it on Heroic. I was SO CLOSE to beating the whole mission without dying until I turned a corner and got hit with a random grenade. After I beat that, I tried out Halo 2's campaign. God, reliving all the dialogue was amazing. I played that SO MUCH when I was younger. And seeing the Arbiter get tortured in next-gen graphics...damn.

If they came to hear me beg, they will be disappointed.

Are you sure?

*electrocution machine starts*

RAHHH!!!

I'm realizing how much of Halo's story and lore I have forgotten. Anyways there was a certain point in H2's campaign where it took me nearly 15 minutes to get past just one group of enemies on Heroic because I ran out of ammo for both my BR and SMG and had to finish them off with a plasma pistol. After that. I got killed by melee after turning a corner, and it turned out I didn't get a checkpoint so I spawned ALL the way back before I had cleared those enemies. So I decided to not bother with that, and I hopped onto Halo 3's second mission on Heroic (I don't like the first one in the jungle). I got up until the part where there are like ten brutes with armor and bruteshots and hammers and you have no allies to help you.

I have a couple friends who are in college right now but they will be getting the games around Christmas and we will probably do all the campaigns on legendary together. For now I'm gonna play a shitload of multiplayer most likely, and try to git gud and get lots of achievements (there are over 500 in the game I think).

Yeah, it felt like what Farcry 3 could have been if they had spent a year simply adding things to make it better.
Drivable helis, shooting while driving Although the default controls for this on console make driving altogether impossible and the alternate driving control scheme doesn't have an aim down sight button., a hundred side missions in over a dozen flavors not at all like those idiotic side quests in Far Cry 3, more weapons, beautiful world, and generally just felt overall better.
I just wish I could play the co-op, but having a ping over nine hundred milliseconds just doesn't work online and they were too cheap to add splitscreen.

FUCK stealth missions in FPS games and also fuck those 25 minutes of unskippable cutscenes that just serve to show us how edgy the main villain is, instead of giving us a single reason to care about the main character other than "muh dead mom".

Well, you only have to kill one guy to get a gun back and after that stealth doesn't matter at all if you don't want it to. There are a few other missions where stealth is important, but I think that with most of them except the assassinations and hostage rescue side missions and when you infiltrate the city of pain you can just shoot your way through if you'd prefer. And it's not like it's terribly difficult to remain unseen when every enemy soldier has tunnel vision and can only see twenty feet ahead of himself.
You only see the dictator two more times before the end game cut scene, and the more interesting story is about what happened to your father, why your mother fled the country, and what connection the dictator has to that event.
If you're really just done with the game, and are likely never going to touch it again, you can technically beat it in under twenty minutes if you stay in the dining room when Pagan leaves. He says he'll come back as he walks out, and if you wait for about twelve minutes he'll personally fly you to where your mother wants her ashes to be placed and briefly tell you what he knows about what happened to her and your father. You never even have to fire a gun.

Lol it was Australia that did that, not America. And it was only pulled from the shelves of Target. AND it was not pulled because of Jack Thompson, it was because the people who run Australian Target didn't like the depiction of "violence against women" in the game.

It's a little late for controversy with GTA V. It has already sold billions of dollars worldwide and received universal critical acclaim.

From my experience it is not nearly as bad as it used to be. I had a conversation with a woman who is nearly 50 and she wanted my opinions on next-gen consoles for her children.

I play my 3DS in public and don't get shit for it.

I was actually asked to write an article about how video games can be used to benefit people with mental illness (studies have shown that autistic people really like video games).

The video game industry made more than 10 billion dollars last year. It's not just a "geek/nerd" thing anymore, nearly everyone under the age of 35 plays at least some video games now. Competitive gaming/MLG actually has the potential to be a real big thing as we go forward.

All this crap about "gamers are dead" and "the industry is gonna crash again" is complete nonsense. Look how well GTA V on Xbone/PS4, or Pokemon OR/AS, or the MCC are selling, and those are just remakes.

People who think SJWs are a real threat and that they're gonna be the downfall of modern gaming are completely paranoid.

I let my brother play Forge in Halo 2 Anniversary. He went on a big open map and built a huge bridge with a wall at the end of each side, as well as teleporters. Then he put fusion coils on one side and a tank on the other. He got in the tank and fired at the fusion coils (they were so far away you couldn't see them) then quickly got out, went through the teleporter and actually beat the tank shots to the coils. It was pretty cool.

Also, I'm doing a self-imposed challenge in my Pokemon Black 2 version.

I'm basically doing a pseudo-Nuzlocke playthrough. No healing items, no repels, have to fight everything, can only catch the first pokemon I encounter on each route, and no restarting saves--if I lose a battle, I lose a battle. I'm not doing the fainting/full restart rule though.

It's definitely more difficult than an average playthrough but the only parts that are really a pain in the ass are the gym leaders. In fact the only reasons I beat the last two gyms are because I got absurdly lucky.

Before the latest update, the issue I had was that I couldn't get enough science to unlock everything I wanted fast enough to keep it entertaining. All I wanted was some goddamn wheels, fuck!
And with the latest update, I've unlocked everything and I've only had two manned missions to Kerbin's moons. They need to find a better balance.
Granted, second manned mission was a twelve ton, six man science base on wheels that circumnavigated Minmus, so it's partially my fault for being so ambitious.
That base was a bitch to drive though, any change in acceleration towards the rear would flip the back end up and over.

Okay, huge fucking rant about Destiny coming through.

My dad got me Destiny for Xbone for christmas, I didn't actually ask for it, I had wanted Far Cry 4, but it's okay because some of my friend's have it and they say it's good so I tried it out.

Now for starters, I played the whole beta when it originally came out, and because I disliked the beta so much I didn't buy the full game.

And now that I've put a few hours into the full game, I have to say I'm disappointed because they didn't fix ANY of the problems from the beta, such as:

>game claims to be a "first-person shooter MMORPG" but the max players you can have in the majority of missions/gametypes ranges from 3-12. That is barely anything considering that Battlefield 4 on Xbone can have 64-player matches.

>the places you can explore are pretty big, but they are fucking EMPTY. There is barely loot anywhere, and you can't loot enemy corpses (or at least not the way you can in Fallout). There is no point in exploring the worlds in Destiny because there is nothing to find, so it ends up just feeling like a typical linear mission-structure, the exact opposite of what the game was supposed to be.
>the enemies are fucking STUPID. For starters they're not particularly interesting-looking, and there's nothing special about them. Little ones go down in a few bullets, big ones are usually slow bullet sponges that occasionally have recharging shields and the ability to teleport. I am not joking when I say that you can stand still in the open and enemies will often not shoot at you or miss you for several seconds. And not only that, but when they are smart enough to do something like take cover, all they do is just stand there and wait for you to chase after them. There were so many times in the game where I just should have been killed, but the enemies are so fucking stupid they can't even get me when I'm outnumbered, practically cornered and my shields are down. They almost never chase after you either, so often a firefight will just become an irritating slog of shooting some enemies until your shields go down, hiding until they come back up, repeat until you've killed them all.
>there is no penalty for dying except for certain special areas at the end of missions
>disregarding the mediocre RPG elements, the gameplay mechanics are nearly identical to Halo or any generic FPS that has come out in the last ten years
>there are so many things that just make it too easy (and I say this as someone who sucks at video games). Ex: you get infinite sprint and a vehicle with infinite boost that you can spawn almost any time. There's no fall damage. There's no kind of stamina system for things like frequent meleeing or reloading or double jumping, which you would think would have been great for an RPG game.
>the story is dumb as fuck, it's basically "blah blah blah aliens took over the universe blah blah blah kill them all". Considering this is from the people who made the original Halo trilogy, this game could have been a LOT deeper and more interesting.

Those are my big complaints, however I will say that despite these flaws it is still fun and as far as games about shooting aliens go you could certainly do worse. Still though, considering the budget, and the hype, and the fact that this was supposed to be one of THE big reasons to own a next-gen console, it's just sad how it turned out.

Here is an interesting read, it puts the game and the creator in a very different perspective honestly:

http://www.polygon.com/2014/10/17/6994921/hatred-the-polygon-interview

>Why did you decide to make a graphically intense game about killing innocent people?

>"The answer is simple really. We wanted to create something contrary to prevailing standards of forcing games to be more polite or nice than they really are or even should be.

>"Yes, putting things simply, we are developing a game about killing people. But what's more important is the fact that we are honest in our approach. Our game doesn't pretend to be anything else than what it is and we don't add to it any fake philosophy.

>"In fact, when you think deeper about it, there are many other games out there, where you can do exactly the same things that the antagonist will do in our project. The only difference is that in Hatred gameplay will focus on those things. I also do believe that we're pretty straight forward about this on our official website. Plus hey, you've got to remember that Postal was first and still is the king of the genre.

There's a lot of variables and points of reference here.
Cory in the House: The Game is probably not as hyped for one thing as Destiny.
I doubt that people who bought it expected more than a base tie to the show or whatever with some decent to average gameplay.

Meanwhile Destiny was fun and impressive looking, but it was not what was expected, or promised, and overall was poorly balanced.
I doubt CitH:TG had to worry about balance, or even expectations.

You're playing the villain in this game, and there shouldn't have to be a clearly defined motive. It's simply just because he can.

Sure, I get that there are people who take issue with that and see it as a very bad thing, but it is just still a game.

I turn the damn thing on and it tells me it wants to update. Too fucking bad, my internet connection is shit at the moment and that won't fucking work. I ask it to play offline, that seems like something that should work. But no. The idiot who designed this thing made it impossible to sign in to your profile if you're offline. And although my updates work, they are slow as fuck, we're talking nearly an hour for less than 1GB. My 360 is faster somehow.

Anonymous 508087

>Xbone having problems
Big surprise.

I fucking hate the new consoles, mostly because they try to be more than gaming systems. I don't want to watch TV on my goddamn Xbox, I want to play fucking games and I want to be able to that easily and quickly. The fucking connectivity features and apps are all completely useless to me and I don't want them. I want to put a disk in my gaming console and then play it. I don't want or need anything more.
The Gamecube was perfection for me. It was simple and it worked. That was all I needed, and that's all I've wanted since.

Anonymous 508088

>>508087

I mostly agree with you except I do like using Netflix on my Xbone because it's the only way I can watch movies on my actual TV (I don't have cable).

I also don't like discs, I'm pretty glad that everything is going digital EXCEPT the games on Xbone are fucking huge and you run out of space fast.

Even WITH the discs there's usually a 20+ GB install which is straight bullshit. I have more games already than can fit on the hard drive so if I want to play one that isn't installed I have to uninstall others.

But I hate going out to Gamestop just to get a game I want, it's too much of a hassle. Digital games never sell out, you never have to wait in line for them, you never have to worry about the disc getting broken or lost...

I wish I had held out and gotten the 1TB Xbone.

Anonymous 508091

>>508088

Some people like being able to do other things on their consoles and that's fine. But extra features bring extra problems, and with the amount of features the Xbone has, it only makes sense that it has a fuckton of problems.
The Gamecube might not have had many features, but my Gamecube never had a problem. Never. It came out of the box on Christmas morning, was hooked up to the television, and it ran perfectly for years. It still runs perfectly. My memory cards are slowing getting corrupted though, and that makes me sad.

I actually don't like that everything is going digital. It just doesn't feel the same. Maybe I'm autistic, but clicking an icon doesn't feel as nice as inserting a disc or a cartridge. There's no physical feedback, no audible click, that says it's in the right place. I also just like owning physical things. Owning digital things doesn't have the same feeling of ownership to it. And the argument about losing or breaking physical copies, and how that doesn't happen to digital, isn't true in my experience. I've lost more digital games than physical ones. My Wii had several virtual console games on it, and when my Wii bit the dust a few years ago, those games became unplayable for me. Lost. The original Zelda, OoT, MM, ALttP, Yoshi Story, SMB 3, all games I paid real money for, gone.

/v/ argues constantly about physical vs. digital, and both have pros and cons. I think it mostly comes down to personal preference.

Anonymous 508092

>>508091

I feel you man. I actually still own a Gamecube, me and my brother play SSB together sometimes.

We also caught every single pokemon in Pokemon Colosseum and we have the cable so if we want to transfer a Colosseum pokemon into one of our GBA pokemon games we can do it. This is great because we can start new games in the GBA versions and then start off with pokemon from Colosseum that aren't normally available in the beginning of the GBA games.

I have a PS2 but my brother broke it, and I have an original Xbox but my brother sold the cables to his friend so it's unplayable. Honestly when I want to play PS2 games, emulating on my PC is much more convenient, sadly.

The only reason I use my Xbone at all is because I don't own a PC that can run the current generation of games well--plus I barely have any hard drive space because I have so much music and older games. And in my experience it seems that crashes and glitches and things just generally not working or making sense are a lot more common with PC gaming.

Excluding the current gen, when you get a console, you know exactly what you are getting and what to expect. You pretty much just put the game in and play, no strings attached. If you don't want to deal with online updates and shit like that then don't even bother connecting to the internet (like I said though excluding current-gen).

I actually don't know if that's a feature. If it's not, you could always send nuclear plants into meltdown by underfunding them. I'm sure that'll be suitably disastrous.

Something I did hear about though, is that if you put a hydro dam in the wrong place, you can flood out entire neighborhoods. So that'll be fun.

I'm the OP, I'm really proud of it, even though probably more than a hundred posts are me.

Maybe the mods could archive it since it's the first video game thread to be super successful on /anon/ (as far as I know).

Although I don't think the bump limit is until like a thousand posts so we have a long way to go.

>Only realistic weapons
>Can shoot people of any race or religion

>A recent report by the BBC says that head teachers in Cheshire in the United Kingdom will report parents to the authorities if they find out that their children have been playing 18+ games like Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty. Schools have sent out letters warning parents of the risk of them allowing their children to play unsuitable video games.

> “We are trying to help parents to keep their children as safe as possible in this digital era.

> “It is so easy for children to end up in the wrong place and parents find it helpful to have some very clear guidelines.”

I'm helping my parents move, so we've been going through all the closets and the attic packing shit up. I just found the box we shoved the Nintendo 64 into over a decade ago. Even found the original box it came in in the corner of the attic. I took inventory of the games we still had. Kirby Crystal Shards, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, Yoshi's Story, Donkey Kong 64, Paper Mario, Hey You Pikachu, Lego Racers, Super Mario 64, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Stadium 2, and a few others. Man, my childhood was great.

Rural Indiana. It's nice and quiet out here, but communications suffer. There's no cell signal on any square foot of my family's five acres.

>>512346
I'm not very tech savy, but I believe something like that was one option my parents looked into. I think the issue with it was the hills surrounding the house. Only way to get a wireless signal to anywhere on the property was from the sky.

Trying to be a gamer in a very rural area is hell, would not recommend.

Anonymous 512350

>>512347
That blows man, you can't really game with dialup nor satellite. HAve yall looked into putting up a tower on the highest point of the property? Would prolly be worth it to have decent internet.

Anonymous 512351

>>512350
The hills go on for miles in every direction, and a tower would have to be over a hundred feet tall just to clear the tree tops. There's a bunch of huge pines growing on all the hill tops for some reason.
It's too late now anyway, we're moving. In three months time I won't have to put up with this bullshit internet any more and I can actually play games with other people. It'll be amazing, but I'll miss living out inna woods.

Okay so normally I'm a faggot casual who plays on easy or normal/medium but this game was free on XBL last month and I had already beaten and sold it when it first came out, so I downloaded it and decided to try it on Hard. I'm gonna copypaste something I posted to /v/ to explain it:

Holy shit, Hard mode on this game is easier than easy mode on most games. Literally the only thing that changes is enemies do more damage. But if you die, you just respawn a few feet away and the enemies you killed are still dead, AND they give you extra ammo. So basically you can just keep charging the enemies like a retard and there will never be any consequence because eventually you will have killed them all no matter how many times you die. The biggest threats are the turrets and you can just use one of those vigors to turn them to your side.

And that's not even taking into account the clusterfuck nonsense of a plot.

Anonymous 512421

>>512392
Game was shit, what did you expect?

Anonymous 512451

>>512421

Well I did enjoy my first playthrough but a lot of that was due to hype and at first you don't realize how dumb the story is until it's all over.

It does have a very strong atmosphere and interesting areas, and the gory gunplay is fun, but there's just too many sections that are basically interactive cutscenes (completely scripted and impossible to fail).

It's a step above the average modern FPS but it sure as hell doesn't live up to the two masterpieces that came before it.

Anonymous 512570

>>388585

FINALLY I finished this game that I started the thread with (excluding some post-credits bonus mission I don't feel like doing now).

I played for hours today, it was a long-ass story. And for some reason during the final few missions I got really bad framerate dropping randomly. That's consoles for you I guess.

Everyone says Arkham Origins isn't as good so I might skip that and wait for the next-gen sequel to come out.

I just discovered Ironcast, and it is pretty much a perfect game! A turn-based steampunk mech puzzle strategy with roguelike permadeath, but where the XP earned during each game is added up for unlocking stuff for following attempts. Perfect music, sounds, graphics and gameplay, and the weapons truly feel like they have impact.
